What Is A Responsive Website?
A question I have been asked multiple times while building and promoting our website; "What is a responsive website?".
In short, a responsive website is one that adjusts automatically depending on the screen, or indeed, the browser size.
Responsive web design (RWD) is an approach to web design aimed at allowing desktop webpages to be viewed in response to the size of the device one is viewing with. - Wikipedia
A prime example of this would be; say you have 4 browsers open side-by-side, the content of a responsive website will adjust automatically to fit in to the space that it is allocated.
If you take a look at the picture below, you'll notice that responsive websites; PayPal, BBC and our own website have adjusted to the size of the browser. eBay, on the far left hasn't, instead adding a sideways scrolling bar to the bottom of the page.
All of the Squarespace websites we create feature a fully responsive design.
